We live in a world where distractions are common; we are often consumed with social media, unfruitful relationship, television and our cell phones. Our vessels are overflowing with self gratification; which leaves God little to no room to pour into us.
We pray and sing songs saying “we need more of you God”. Although, in actuality we as humans need to decrease who we are as an individual to allow God to pour into an empty vessel. A full vessel cannot be filled. We focus on fashion, vanity, appearance, prestige or position which causes us to become consumed by our own focus. The word of God says “A man's mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure. Proverbs 16:9 AMPC. I recently took the Facebook app off my phone and took a week off work to dedicate my time to meditation and prayer. I needed a spiritual reset! I decided to throw my plans for my life at the feet of Jesus. No I have not stop working on my written vision; I simply decided to stop wrestling and wondering if I’m at the right door; I will prepare what’s in my spirit and allow God to order my steps.
In I Chronicles chapter 22 David began to make all the arrangements for the building of God’s temple. He gave all his attention to this preparation! David did not halt in putting his hands to the plow to assist in gathering and making arrangements for God’s Temple. David knew the Temple would be built; but not by him because God would not allow him to build it because he had too much bloodshed and war on his hands; therefore God ordered his son Solomon (the next appointed King) to build the Temple. Although David was not the builder, he set everything in motion. He began to gather all of the finest wood, marble, gold and silver to be used to build God’s Temple. David had favor with wealthy people and had access to the best craftsmen. He positioned musician, priest, prophets, administrators, officers and so forth to make sure everyone would be in sync which would allow God’s Temple to flow in harmony and glory. He ensured that there would be no insufficiencies in the Temple. He aligned workers with their gifts and talents to serve in the Temple. By the time the Temple was built they were already functioning in their calling. All of their talents and gifting were used to worship the Lord.
Although David was not permitted to build God’s temple; God used the best of David’s gifts and talents; which was a master organizer and composer. He organized the tribes based on their gifts and began training them on how to worship God with their gifts and talents. David composed worship and music unto the Lord and he fine tuned the musicians. He had a variety of musicians available so worship was not flowing from only one vessel but it came from different people to allow a variety of worship unto the Lord. David never loss his focus. His reign as King was coming to an end; David was getting old. This was the last leg of his passionate pursuit to serve the Lord. (I Chronicles 25: 1-7)
You may be in a season of war; but your season of war can bring a season of peace and rest to your children’s children! Remain focus in the hope of your calling. Remove all distractions from what you believe God has called you to do. Reset and align your time to allow God to fill you. The world is absolutely consuming and the flesh is forever willing to be satisfied by the lust and fullness of the world. What we do in our generation sets up our next generation for greater success. Be an example of dedication and holiness before your children.
When both of my boys were toddlers they would hear me praying late at night and would get out of bed and just lie on the floor as I prayed. When my oldest son got older (age 8) he said; “Mama do you remember when you use to pray at night on the floor”. I told him, “yes I remember!” At that moment I realized a reset was needed; distractions had consumed me and halted my preparation. My son’s growing up watching their mother pray opened a road of prayer to them. Today they too will not hesitate to pray with boldness before God and people. You may be traveling down a treacherous road, just as David fought for many years; but his journey pathed a way of peace for many many generations ahead. Distractions have the capability to cause delays in all of our lives... it just depends on how and when we reset our focus and realign back to God.
