Fear is one of the first spirits that makes an attempt to stop us on our journey. As I began to read about fear I come to understand that the Bible talks about two types of fear. The Spirit of Fear and Reverential Fear of the Lord. The Spirit of fear is of Satan, this fear overtakes and leads with a cowardly approach which causes one to become paralyzed in their movement. Reverential fear is something we willfully do in humility unto God in worship. God does not use scare tactics against us, He desires that we willingly submit and view Him as God of the Most High.
Let’s talk about the Spirit of Fear and how this fear has a crippling affect on our purpose. “For God did not give us a spirit of fear (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind, discipline and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7 AMPC. When we search the scriptures when God began to use people in the earth to bring something to pass he first dealt with the Spirit of fear that resided within them.
Before Moses approached Pharaoh, God said fear not! Before Abraham accepted God promise to multiply his seed, God said fear not! Before Isaiah went before the people, God said fear not! Before Mary, received the seed of God, God said fear not. Before Peter walked on water, God said fear not! “AFTER THESE things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am your Shield, your abundant compensation, and your reward shall be exceedingly great.” Genesis 15:1 AMPC. We see that the spirit of fear impresses upon us all. God assured them that He would be with them after He rebuked the Spirit of fear within them! I believe we all wrestle with the Spirit of fear throughout our life. its important for us to be consciously aware of fear and recognize when it is in operations in our lives. In order for us to be effective in the earth and fulfill our purpose God has to deliver us from fear!
Fear is our enemy! Fear causes us to pause and ponder on “what if’s”, “how can I do this” and the "why me's". I believe fear is the one of first attempts the enemy use to silence our dreams and can cause our hope to be deferred. We often hope for things but we lack the most important part... moving in faith. God never said that hope would move mountains...He said Faith would! Stagnated hope leads to deferred hope, which the Bible says will make your soul sick. Stagnation is like a pond that has water but nothing is flowing in or out. We should be like a river flowing with milk and honey; full of life! “When hope’s dream seems to drag on and on, the delay can be depressing. But when at last your dream comes true, life’s sweetness will satisfy your soul.” Proverbs 13:12 TPT. To hope for something is to believe or trust that it will come to pass, although hope should be a moving vehicle. For instance, If I am hoping to get a job; in order for me to obtain the job I must first move in the direction of the job. My desire will initiate my hope to obtain the job. My hope will rest in God's assurance and my feet and hands will move in faith towards the direction of the job. We must hope with faith in God as we push forward to accomplish our dreams. Our hope is to simply trust in God. Our faith is to move forward in belief that God will meet us when we approach the bridge to cross over. God will not fail us, the scripture says, I will put my hope in You! “My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him.” Psalm 62:5 AMPC.
Just as God rebuked the fear that was in Abram, Mary, Isaiah and Peter, we should petition God to rebuke the fear that resides within us and in turn we move in hope/trust in Him as he brings it to pass! He is an All Powerful God! There is no failure in Him! There is no lack in Him! When God gives you a glimpse of your purpose resist the temptation to be subjected to fear, rebuke the Spirit of Fear and put all of your hope in God! Let Nothing Stop You from fulfilling your Purpose... Nothing!!!
Let’s explore Reverential Fear. God is not looking for his children to be fearful or afraid of Him. He wants us to trust in His ability to deliver us. He asked that we come before His throne with boldness with an expectation to partake of all of who He is, in all of His Greatness and Glory! Reverential fear is fulfilled as we honor God's word in humility. When Moses approached the people he told them that God wanted to test their submission to Him. By doing this God wanted to show them His power and His abundant grace. God began to show them the depths of His power in hope that the people would willingly submit and fear the greatness that He beholds! “Moses spoke to the people: “Don’t be afraid. God has come to test you and instill a deep and reverent awe within you so that you won’t sin.”” Exodus 20:20 MSG.
God shows us the power of His might so we can stand assured that God is on our side. He is the Ancient of days and He has no contender. It is important for us to see God in the power of His Might and in the Glory of His Majesty! As long as we see God as All Powerful, we can rest assured that every obstacle that we face in the earth has no chance against our God. “The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him [who revere and worship Him with awe] and each of them He delivers. [Ps. 18:1; 145:20.]” Psalm 34:7 AMPC. When we focus on circumstances or life situations that the enemy puts before us, we make the enemies tactics bigger than God. No matter what we approach we must always see God as bigger. We must see God as the Great I Am! One day in prayer the Lord showed me a giant standing over me and I saw myself in complete fear. Then I heard the Lord say, “I am the great Giant and defender in your life”! Immediately I saw a huge hand reach and grab the giant by the back of his shirt and He tossed the giant away effortlessly! Seeing this brought assurance, peace and an uncontrollable laughter within me for over an hour. Whatever your facing or whatever the enemy is using to intimidate you, envisions your God as the Great I Am! Put your hope and trust in Him and believe God to see you through. “Now may God, the inspiration and fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with hope!” Romans 15:13 TPT
Our hope is anchored in us having assurance in God’s greatness and knowing Him to be our All Powerful Redeemer and Deliverer! As we willingly submit to God in reverential fear in humility; He becomes the only Giant in our life that is on our side. Whom shall we fear when God is on our side?! “Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God— soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God.” Psalm 42:11 MSG
Father in Heaven, You are Almighty in all of your ways! You are the Defender of my days and the Peace that calms every storm I encounter. Father, rebuke the Spirit of fear that stands over me with condemnation. Show yourself mighty before my eyes and cause my hope to be restored in You. I will put my trust in You as I move forward in faith. Unravel the shackles of fear that has paralyzed my feet, loose the bands of hesitation from my hands so that I can take hold of the plow and run in my purpose. Let my eyes behold You in the beauty of Your Glory. God be the inspiration of hope in my life and cause my soul to be satisfied in awe of Your Majesty! Let Purpose be established in me once again, let me awaken from my dreams with destiny embedded in my soul so that I may run fervently until destiny is fulfilled. I will put my hope in you. I will trust in Your strength as I wait for You to manifest the promises You have given me! I will fear no man and no thing, for the Lord is with me and He is Mighty in Battle.
