What actually distances us from God?
Is it our mistakes? Maybe doubt or delayed obedience? No, none of the above separates us from God. We have all made a good number of mistakes in our lifetime; I know I certainly have. The love of God is infinite, His love exceeds past our limited ability to love. God never separates His love from us, we actually remove ourselves from His alignment. It reminds me of standing in the rain under a stationary canopy. If you step from under the canopy you are certain to get wet. The canopy will not change its position in order to provide coverage for you, although it will willingly provide coverage as long as your standing underneath it. There’s a part of us that openly or secretly yearns for the presence of God; because we are from God and made in His image we unknowingly seek His presence. The void of His presence appears greater when we fail to interact with God. Our God is a God of relationship and intimacy. When we truly taste of the Lord we realize He is the necessary component of our life and a true requirement in our life. “Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see how good GOD is. Blessed are you who run to him.” Psalm 34:8 MSG
What gives us an impression of separation from God?
When Jesus took on the sins of the world he experienced a separation or distance from God. Sin repeals against the presence of God. Jesus became the shield for us to cover our sin, like the canopy I mentioned earlier. God is all knowing and is able to view or judge the reasonings of our heart. He knows what’s pure and what’s tainted. We must guard our heart from all unforgiveness, offense and bitterness to remain under the canopy of safety. I know there are many reasons for us to have justified offense, bitterness and a unforgiving heart.
David’s son Absalom, held all three in his heart when his sister Tamar was raped by their older brother. “And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad. For Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.”II Samuel 13:22 NKJV. The offense was so embedded that he planned to kill his older brother. Bitterness and unforgiveness consumed him until he revenged his sister Tamar. The position of his heart separated him from the peace of God and ultimately developed into rage and anger.

We must give the pain of our affliction to God. Offense has the capability to multiply in our hearts, therefore it is imperative that we ask God to heal our pain and make the choice to forgive. When we take the first step in choosing to forgive Holy Spirit will aid us to wholeness. Offense, unforgiveness and bitterness clogs our ability to hear the voice of God, the pain of our situation will become louder and ultimately draw us from the safety of God. Absalom offense drew him to murder his brother. This same offense drew him to divide his fathers house and attempt to overthrow his own father as king. The offense ultimately lead him to his death. These three links of destruction ultimate goal is to stagnate you from your purpose. The weight of the pain leads us to bitterness and unforgiveness which can become quicksand around our ankles. It’s hard to envision yourself outside of it because it is a consuming force. Christ ask us to cast our burdens on him. Have you ever cast a fishing rod, imagine the motion of casting. You sling the rod out as far as you can. Christ is our escape from offense, bitterness and unforgiveness. I was not able to grasp or see the potential within me because my thoughts were so consumed with offense, bitterness and unforgiveness. God said he would leave the masses to rescue you from the grips of the enemy!! Hallelujah!! He did just that for me! Today I am free to stand in the weight of my purpose and function out of my identity and not my grief and pain!
We are at the time of resurrection Sunday, a time when Christ displayed the ultimate choice to forgive. He sinned not, and was accused, blamed, ridiculed and abused before the world, yet he forgave and opened the door for us to partake in everlasting life! He forgave so that we might have life more abundantly, therefore we are required to forgive also. The greatest part of it all is that He will be there to help us forgive as He heals the wounds caused by the afflictions!
My Moments of Confessions:
Father I confess that yesterday’s pain is alive in my heart. I seek for your love to heal the wounds of my soul. Today I choose to forgive them. I choose to release the weight of this offense in my heart. I choose to release the bitter taste of rage from my mouth and revenge from my hands. Father let me partake of your presence and your forgiveness. Forgive me Lord for giving my heart over to the workings of my flesh. Let an outpouring of your presence saturate me unto wholeness is conformed. Deliver me from the memory of this pain and loose joy, peace and your endless love to revive my soul. In Jesus name!
