Losing yourself to accommodate someone else’s goals will only leave you empty and can detour you from fulfilling your purpose. To love someone is to accept them for who they are while encouraging them to become a better person in Christ. God does not require us to lay down our purpose as a sacrifice to gain another persons attention or affection. Christ loved us while he was in the earth but he did not allow anyone to take him off the path of fulfilling his purpose in the earth. Christ redirected his mother, Peter and anyone that stood in his path as a distraction. “But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.” Mark 8:33 KJV. Any person you partner with in life should enhance your purpose in the earth. God encourages relationships, although relationships are not intended to destroy or eliminate another persons identity and purpose in the earth. In all relationships we should enhance one another’s potential to fulfill our purpose in the earth and strengthen our identity!
If we encounter a relationship that does not enhance or strengthen our character for the better, it’s a great chance, that relationship will detour us from coming to the fullness of who God called us to be. We cannot function in the earth without relationships. This is the way God intended it to be. When God created Adam he understood man just cannot be alone. This is not just for marital relationships, this is also for friendships and family. We need one another to grow and at times we sharpen one another with our strengths and experiences.
We often encounter relationships that can be consuming or weighty. Meaning, one individual in the relationship will give the most, always needing to be the listening ear or burden carrier. In these relationships it is important to steer the individual that’s being a “dumper” to take their concern to the Lord and listen for direction from God. God does not instruct us to cast our burdens unto our friends. He instructs us to confess our faults to one another and to pray for one another. In doing this, it allows for us to forfeit condemnation and gain an accountability partner to keep us on the road of salvation.
“Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalms 55:22 NKJV “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16 KJV
We are not to lose sight of our purpose in the earth. The enemy comes to distract us in many ways. His ultimate plan is to detour us from coming into the fullness of our identity. Have you ever traveled a destination and been unsure of how to get there? But after making the first couple of trips, a map or directions is no longer needed. You are certain you know the way! Your confidence is increased and your assurance is unwavering. Once we understand the fullness of our identity we can plow ahead without hesitation. We should be consistently seeking out our earthly path while resisting any traps that consumes us with another persons agenda to the extent that we forfeit our destined journey. Any relationship you encounter, in a matter of time, you should be able to locate another persons strengths and talents. We shouldn’t overpower our relationships with a one sided agenda without encouraging one another to press forward in the strengths and talents that are evident in their lives. If your conversation in your relationship is consumed with what your doing only without pointing out or supporting your partner or friend in their strengths, you are selfishly overpowering the relationship. How many times have you paused to ask your friend “what do you believe God is calling you to do in the earth?” Then encouraging them to proceed to bringing it to pass.
Never find yourself being lost in another persons dream. Ask God what he has called you to do and reveal to you how to master the gifts and talents he has given you so he can unravel your identity and calling! Our greatest fulfillment in the earth is to know why we are place in the earth!
