The word of God tells us that there is no condemnation common to man. This simply means whatever you have been through or going through someone else has endured it or currently going through a similar situation! “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” I Corinthians 10:13 NKJV. The latter part of the scripture tells us that God is forever faithful and has already provided a way of escape.
After Christ resurrected he still bore the wounds from the cross, should we bare our wounds also? We know we are to walk in the simulated of Christ, as when He walked on the earth. The Bible tells us that Christ was wounded for our sins. Christ was scolded, ridiculed and reprimanded so we can have peace on earth and gain eternal peace. Because we were born in sin, we have a wicked nature. Our iniquity and wickedness rallied for Christ to be beat and crucified. Because He endured being ridiculed, beat and whipped we are given and unequal exchange for healing and eternal life. “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 NKJV
Now when Christ rose from the dead He showed Himself amongst His disciples and His followers in His earthly but glorified body. After He resurrected He showed his wounds. His wounds stood as evidence that He had endured the cross and God had given Him a way of escape. Christ was resurrected with all power in His hands. Now why wouldn’t Christ be resurrected with His wounds mended and His body made new without any blemishes? The wounds of Christ are evidence of His journey in the earth. When Christ reaches out His hands you are aware that He has endured persecution. The wounds that Christ carry has healed us.
Now Christ has said that we would endure the same persecution and He would provide us a way of escape. We as believers often hide our wounds or our battle scars. This is the total opposite of Christ. When Christ resurrected He invited Thomas to touch His wounds to help him believe. We cover up inconsistencies and failures because we want to portray ourselves to be perfect amongst our fellow man. What baffles me is that even amongst our closest family we hide our wounds. We refuse to tell each other our pains, struggles and/or our weaknesses. If God said there is nothing that you’re going through that someone else has not or is going through. Yet we hide our wounds and struggle inwardly with emotional battles which can lead us vacillating in and out of depression with unstable emotions. Exposing truth can be explosive; yet it is necessary. When truth is exposed, we don’t have to hide our wounds. However we should be able to admit that something is wrong and that we are not functioning in the full depth of who God called us to be. Our wounds should be used to help our sister or brother believe that God will see them through and be evidence of God’s ability to deliver us from our dead situation; Christ’s wounds still resembles His resurrected power!
Once we become wounded it is our mission to seek healing, then our healed wounds will become a testament of God’s deliverance! We don’t need to hide our struggles because in ourselves we will only make the situation worse. You ever notice that when a child gets a scratch they always want a bandaid. My son will ask me for a bandaid when he has an injury, but when it’s time to go to bed I tell him that we need to remove the bandaid to allow it to be exposed which will promote healing. When you leave a bandaid on for an extended time you can see that the wounded area will take longer to heal. Not only that, the surrounding tissue that was not affected by the wound itself will start to breakdown. For this reason, I tell my children that we will need to air this wound out! Covering up our wounds to disguise or hide what we’re battling will only delay the healing process. We don’t need to put forth effort to look the part, because we are the best of God’s creation; even when we are flawed. We must confess our faults to one another as the Bible tells us to restore one another in love. How can we restore wounds that are disguised as having it all together? I believe in walking by faith and confessing those things that be not as though they are. However, if we are honest with ourselves we confess for show and in secret our confession are not unto belief, because you cannot put new wine in old wine skins! We must first heal the wounds within. Then we can be filled with new wine and showcase who we are in truth!
I am not ashamed that I am divorced, although this has not always been the case. My road travelled was necessary for me to become the woman that I am today! My wounds reflect the power of God’s ability to resurrected me from my dead place, or as I like to call it “that desert place!” I have endured many inner struggles and I found myself being defeated by many of them; mainly because I masked my wounds and pretended to be okay. Let’s come to acceptance of this, you do not have it all together because you can look fabulous on the outside. You will have it together when Christ alone dissembles you and puts you back together again! We hide our inner struggles within us, but Christ takes the inner struggles and puts them on display. You see the enemy uses what we hid to defeat or attack us. Not saying we need to wear a sign that tells everyone that I’m divorced, I’m an alcoholic or I’m an ex drug attic. But we should be free enough that we don’t have to hide behind what we are freed from. When we allow God to deal with what is true about us, He will then be able to mend the wounds within and reposition us in our identity and purpose! I am not defined by the wounds that you see or what you know about me; but I am defined by my identity, in who Christ says that I am. Now that I am not consumed by the weight of what’s within I can see myself through the eyes of Christ! When Christ shows you your truth and heals you from within; your wounds will not be a sign of defeat, but a sign of His resurrecting power in your life!
